課程概述

Introduction to Particle Physics.
This is a modern introduction to Particle Physics with a focus to the Standard Model of Elementary Particles and the Higgs mechanism. The teacher is a member of the team that discovered the Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider and will present the latest theoretical and experimental status of the Higgs research.

The student after attending this course he should be able to
- Understand the structure of the Standard Model
- Understand the concept of Gauge invariance and its link to the observed forces, in particular the Electroweak interaction.
- Be introduced to Spinors and the Dirac equation.
- Understand the concept of Symmetries in Quantum Mechanics.
- Understand the concept of spontaneous symmetry breaking of local and global symmetries, the Higgs phenomenon.
- Be introduced to Quantum Chromodynamics and strong interactions
- Be introduced to neutrino physics
- Be introduced to basic concepts of Quantum Field Theory.
- To learn about the experimental searches for the Higgs boson and physics beyond the Standard Model.

Modern Physics and Quantum Physics
Some background with Relativistic QM and QFT will be useful
